❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Percentage change measures how much a value has increased or decreased from one specific point to another — it has a clear starting value and an ending value. Percentage difference, on the other hand, compares two values without treating either one as the original. It is symmetric, meaning the result is the same regardless of which value you enter first. Use percentage change for growth or decline over time, and percentage difference when simply comparing two unrelated values.
To find a percentage of any number, divide the percentage by 100 and then multiply by the number. For example, to find 15% of 800: divide 15 by 100 to get 0.15, then multiply by 800 to get 120. Our calculator does this instantly using the "% of Number" tab — just enter the percentage and the number and click Calculate.
Yes. The Add / Subtract % tab is designed exactly for this purpose. To add tax such as GST or VAT, enter the original price, enter the tax percentage, select Add, and click Calculate. To apply a discount, do the same but select Subtract instead. The result shows the final price along with exactly how much was added or deducted.
A negative percentage change means the value has decreased from the original to the new figure. For example, if a product price dropped from 500 to 400, the percentage change is −20%, indicating a 20% decrease. Our calculator automatically labels the result as either Percentage Increase or Percentage Decrease and highlights it in green or red so you can tell at a glance which direction the change went.
